Now, it’s important to note that shying away from social situations is not the same as social anxiety, both brings about two different reactions under same situation, to be precise, shying away is a choice where as social anxiety does not allow one to have social interaction because the person in question feel that they might embarrass themselves, they fret on how people judge them, etc this worry is so out of proportion that when cornered into social situations they are unable to perform both physically and mentally even the simplest of action, mind you an individual may have social anxiety towards all or specific social environment for example they might be good at addressing a crown but have social anxiety over one on one talk or vice versa, or even both.

To identify if an individual is suffering under social anxiety or reacting with a normal reluctance towards social situations one might make an observation on persistence of 6 months or more of such symptoms like they are unable to converse with strangers, facing difficulty in addressing a crowd, is not attending social situations like parties and such interactions.
Treatment and management of social anxiety disorder.
After observations on possibility of social phobia, the individual in question needs to get a diagnosis over the presence of social anxiety disorder, and Accordingly, he or she is given treatment options on medication along with consultation, therapy, counseling, as medication can just be an aid.
